Description
The Laboratory Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by preparing processing and handling samples in accordance with established procedures. This role contributes to maintaining accurate records ensuring proper sample tracking and assisting with routine laboratory tasks that support testing activities. The Laboratory Assistant helps maintain a clean organized and compliant work environment to ensure smooth laboratory workflows and reliable results.
Requirements
- Greet and assist walk-in clients in a professional and courteous manner.
- Accept inspect and verify all sample deliveries for accuracy and integrity.
- Review and match sample labels with Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation.
- Perform basic sample tests including: Temperature verification Sample weighing pH measurement and adjustment if required Residual chlorine detection and treatment and Oxidizer checks.
- Record and document all sample information using established tracking systems.
- Communicate with laboratory and client support staff regarding rush or short-hold samples.
- Assemble bottle orders and prepare sampling media for outgoing shipments.
- Organize and maintain sample storage areas; manage disposal of expired materials.
- Transport samples to/from client sites using a company vehicle as needed.
- Conduct weekly emergency equipment checks (e.g. eyewash stations safety showers).
- Prepare and maintain air sampling devices and update internal equipment calendars.
- Operate a forklift when needed (training and certification provided).
- Help maintain a clean safe and organized work environment.
- Support safety and quality systems as part of Metiris culture of stewardship and continuous improvement.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience/Qualifications:
Previous experience in a laboratory or regulated environment preferred.
Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
Basic computer literacy including data entry and file.
Demonstrated reliability organizational skills and task ownership.
Shipping and logistics knowledge is a plus.
