Compensation: $19 to $22 hourly (depending on experience).
Location: Jersey City New Jersey.
Starting Date: School Year 2025 - 2026
Hours: Monday through Friday - Aftercare from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Job Description
Apollo After School offers after-school care and enrichment clubs at local schools. We seek outgoing personable and reliable art teachers for our school-based programs in the area. If you dont have a degree in Sports or in education no problem! While this is highly valuable we encourage candidates who have a real genuine passion for working with children and art to apply! As an Apollo Substitute Teacher your responsibilities will be:
- Provide a high-quality learning environment and manage activities that extend the school day.
- Planning and implementing engaging art lessons for children aged 5-12 with a focus on beginner level.
- Plan and deliver fun engaging sports activities tailored to different age groups (Pre-K - 5th grade) such as soccer basketball tennis field hockey etc
- Teach fundamental skills and rules of various sports ensuring all children participate and enjoy.
- Promote teamwork sportsmanship and positive attitudes in a safe and inclusive environment.
- Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of all students.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by following appropriate guidelines and maintaining supervision.
- Develop age-appropriate sports activities that foster physical flexibility teamwork and fitness.
- Promote positive behavior and social interactions among children.
- Collaborate with other aftercare staff to ensure a cohesive program experience.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of child development and best practices in sports education.
- Creating a positive and inclusive class environment allowing kids to feel valuable and supported.
- Follow designated schedule and curriculum maintain a routine for students
- Assist with homework completion
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper storage and care.
The requirements for our substitute teachers are:
- One year working with school-age youth ages 4-10 in a school/after-school setting.
- Ability to command respect and cooperation in an elementary classroom.
- Confidence to run a classroom alone.
- A team player who can collaborate with peers.
- Ability to assess and solve problems associated with elementary-aged children.
- Ability to create and maintain a fun caring and responsive educational environment.
- Premium hourly rates are available for educators with ASL skills in programs where there are children who use or benefit from ASL.

Physical Environment:
- Able to stay active and on your feet for extended periods.
- Able to move quickly (walk jog or run) to ensure student safety.
- Frequent bending reaching and participating in physical activities with children.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
