Job Description Summary
The Senior Universal Relay (UR) R&D Engineering Leader is responsible for leading a large team its people and the on-time delivery of its projects within budget. She or he is responsible for identifying and managing the required skills and capacity and grow these through training hiring and outsourcing.
The Senior R&D Engineering Leader ensures the cohesion and proper functioning of his team. She or he drives the daily activities of the team sets the priorities for each team member and evaluates each team members performance & growth objectives.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on cross-silo operational leader with good knowledge of protection automation and control of the electricity grid. She or he will be an excellent communicator capable of addressing technical issues with the R&D teams while keeping the overall program view and customer commitments.
The Senior R&D Engineering Leader will report directly to the global PAC R&D Leader and she or he will interact within the broader GEV Electrification and Grid Automation teams to maximize collaboration cross businesses initiatives impact and performance.
Occasional business travels to other R&D sites.

Key Responsibilities
People leadership
- Ensure and guarantee compliance with EHS for the teams and their environment.
- Align resources and capabilities to meet the requested product roadmaps.
- Identify the need for hiring training and/or outsourcing.
- Drive a positive mindset embrace change and lead through uncertainty.
- Establish a one team mindset and foster collaboration with other teams and stakeholders.
- Drive excellence and high performance of the teams through indicators and feedback.
- Evaluate the performance and leadership behaviors of the team and its members.
Project execution
- Break down the business strategy and product roadmaps in operational project plans.
- Ensure the steady execution of the projects through indicators and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards (cybersecurity quality life cycle etc.).
- Ensure quality requirements on traceability and documentation.
Technical leadership
- Drive continuous improvement with the teams by applying Lean.
- Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence by example.
- Participate to the technology strategy and competency planning for the overall R&D organization.
- Communicate the business strategy and product roadmaps from product management.
- Provide the necessary support to the team in operational activities in the event of difficulties.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree or higher in computer science electrical engineering or similar technical degree from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the area of expertise or equivalent
- 2 years of experience with Agile software development practices and tools (Jira Confluence)
- 5 years of experience with systems engineering systems integration and system validation
Eligibility Requirements
- Willing to travel (up to 10% domestic and international) to other R&D sites
Desired Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills ability to convince
- Good people soft skills especially on listening coaching and interviewing
- Good understanding of the Energy Transition and its impact on Grid Automation
