Job Summary (Legal Secretary):
- Provide diverse secretarial support to the Legal Department including attorneys in Walnut Creek.
- Maintain and manage attorney calendars tickler systems and scheduling for meetings and court appearances.
- Review organize and index legal mail and documents for attorney action and calendaring.
- Compose and handle correspondence memos and client communications as directed by attorneys.
- Maintain organized and confidential electronic legal files ensuring accurate documentation of activities.
- Prepare discovery pre-trial and trial documents for court filings.
- Schedule and coordinate all aspects of discovery for both plaintiffs and defendants.
- Provide legal secretarial support for both short-term and long-term assignments.
- Answer and screen phone calls; transcribe dictation and draft correspondence and litigation documents.
- Assist and provide backup support to other secretaries as needed.
- Stay updated on court rules and procedures.
- Participate in departmental and company projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 7 years of defense trial litigation experience.
- At least 3 years of recent California Civil litigation experience.
- Required experience in trial preparation.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of court procedures and rules.
- Ability to work independently with strong initiative.
- Proficiency in MS Word; familiarity with case management software.
- Typing speed of at least 70 words per minute.
