IB Business andor Economics Teacher (Expat Contract)

General

The school seeks a passionate enthusiastic and talented business management and/or economics practitioner with qualifications and experience commensurate with the effective teaching and learning of IB Diploma Business Management and/or IB Diploma Economics.

Economics and Business Management are very popular options in the IB Diploma Programme at St. Pauls School with very strong IB examination results. Many pupils go on to study these or closely related subjects at top universities in the United States United Kingdom Europe and Brazil. A business or economics specialist is preferred but applicants with the ability to teach in other disciplines are welcome. Experience with IB is a clear advantage but not essential for this role as training and guidance will be available.

A full commitment to the life of the school is expected as is a desire to pursue self-directed relevant professional development to help the school continue to develop and extend its reputation for excellence.

In addition to teaching duties the successful candidate will a have a pastoral role and be a tutor to a group of Senior School pupils. Tutoring is a significant part of a teachers responsibilities at St. Pauls both in terms of time devoted to it and its contribution towards the successful running of the school. Participation in enrichment clubs and societies will also be expected.

Economics and Business Department

The Economics and Business department is a well-organised department that is continually looking for ways to improve. There are currently three teachers working in the department and approximately 40 pupils studying each subject in each Sixth Form year group. Some pupils elect to study both Economics and Business Management.

While the primary role in this case involves teaching in the sixth form teachers are expected to teach across the whole ability and age range. Knowledge and experience of assessment for learning practices will be a distinct advantage as will the ability to use a range of activities to improve pupils critical thinking and IB Learner Profile skills.

As part of the ongoing school development plan the economics and business management department is keen to be at the forefront of the digital revolution so an interest in the design and development of digital-based resources would be a strong advantage.

A capacity to engage and stretch the most able pupils is a must as is a willingness to develop real world experiences and relationships through visits and guest speakers from the business community. There is an active enrichment programme allowing pupils to be involved in the Knowledge at Wharton High School (KWHS) international investment competition among other investment and social enterprise activities.

The IB Business and Economics Teacher main responsibilities:

* To guide prepare and develop St. Pauls pupils to reach their potential by promoting and nurturing learning and understanding in different aspects of your subject specialism.

• Through a holistic (enhancing skills and abilities) approach to teaching and learning encourage a positive attitude of learning a critical spirit an independent attitude awareness of global citizenship and a high quality British and Brazilian education for the academic and personal development of pupils following the schools mission and values.

• To stimulate pupil learning by offering a variety of curricular opportunities to develop subject skills through a differentiated learning landscape which also includes use of digital resources in order to foster talents and abilities in pupils.

• Monitor support and assess pupils and provide timely and effective feedback to ensure pupil progress (both to parents and pupils) through the reporting framework attending parents meetings or any appropriate evaluation tool including the analysis of data.

• To promote a safe environment for learning to pupils throughout the school as a subject teacher to ensure all pupils are happy safe and supported promoting a strong sense of community aligned to school values

• Plan and deliver lessons of appropriate type content and quality for different year groups across senior school working as a team player following your department guidelines and school policy and to ensure pupil progress

• Run workshop sessions and recuperação activities to offer support to pupils learning and contribute to the enrichment programme.

• Attend departmental and staff meetings to follow the schools plans and development training sessions in order to have a continuous sharing of best practice and administrative training.

• Supervising IAs and extended essays.

• Carry out duties by overseeing pupils during break and lunch times on a regular basis

• Invigilate examinations when necessary within the school timetable.

• Cover for absent teachers when requested.

• Participate in evaluate and record appropriate professional development to support best practice and personal professional goals following school guidelines.

• Be a pastoral tutor; take responsibility for the safety and well-being of a small group of pupils in a particular year group within the schools pastoral structure.

This post is full time. Staff are expected to be in school from 7.30am to 4:00pm during term time. With one hour for addition to normal working hours teaching staff will need to attend school meetings and functions that are held outside these times. The successful applicant is expected to work the hours that are necessary to fulfil their responsibilities and meet the needs of the school.

Safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.
