About the role

As the Program Leader Strategic Land Use Planning you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future growth and change of Hobart. Working closely with the Manager Strategic Land Use Planning you will lead strategic projects and planning scheme amendments that balance development with the citys unique natural and cultural heritage. This position requires a forward-thinking professional who can deliver evidence-based planning outcomes manage complex projects and provide expert advice to stakeholders and decision-makers.

Role accountabilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic land use planning projects and planning scheme amendments.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and recommendations for elected members and external agencies.
  • Represent council in submissions and hearings before the Tasmanian Planning Commission and other bodies.
  • Manage and coordinate consultants and contractors in line with Council policies.
  • Provide professional advice to the public developers and stakeholders on planning processes and strategic initiatives

About you

You are an experienced strategic planning professional with a passion for shaping sustainable urban environments. You bring a high level of expertise in planning policy and strategic land use planning coupled with strong leadership and communication skills. Your ability to manage complex projects engage with diverse stakeholders and provide evidence-based advice will be key to your success in this role.

What were looking for:

  • A degree or higher qualifications in City/Urban Planning or a related discipline with extensive experience in strategic land use planning.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply planning schemes legislation and policy frameworks to achieve sustainable outcomes.
  • Strong project management skills including experience in policy development structure planning and built form controls.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills with the ability to prepare detailed reports and negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated capability in community engagement and building collaborative relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.
