Job Description

Texas A&M UniversityKingsville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Organismal & Conservation Biology. We seek a biologist whose research and teaching focus on the conservation ecology and management of organisms. We welcome applicants from a wide range of organismal disciplines including both vertebrate and invertebrate zoology and we especially encourage applications from candidates whose expertise strengthens or complements existing departmental strengths.

Areas of emphasis may include but are not limited totraditional organismal fields such as herpetology mammalogy ornithology ichthyology entomology invertebrate zoology aquatic biology or parasitology as well as broad ecological research areas related to the conservation and management of organisms populations communities or ecosystemsregardless of the biological or ecological scale of study. We also welcome applicants working in emerging conservation-oriented disciplines including invasive species biology conservation/ecological genomics biodiversity informatics or related fields.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses develop classes in their area of expertise and maintain an active research program involving students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower-level core biology courses and upper-level organismal/conservation biology courses.

  • Develop or update organismal biology courses as needed.

  • Establish an active research program that includes undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Mentor MS thesis students.

  • Participate in departmental and university service.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by the start date.

  • At least 18 graduate semester hours in relevant biological disciplines.

  • Evidence of effective teaching and research potential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience involving students in research.

  • Potential to secure external funding.

  • Record of scholarship in organismal or conservation biology.

  • Experience teaching field- or organism-focused courses.
