Title: Lead Dispatch Supervisor

With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic 24% African American 9% White and 6% Asian. Job Goal:
Serve as a key member of the administrative team by supporting the safe efficient and effective delivery of student transportation services in accordance with Board of Education policies and Kansas State Department of Education regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Co-lead the transportation dispatch team.
- Monitor bus availability and combine routes during driver shortages.
- Communicate clearly concisely and professionally with drivers via radio.
- Assist with daily updates changes and corrections regarding student transportation.
- Maintain positive working relationships with building administrators district parents and students.
- Assist with maintaining all records required for Federal State and Local reporting.
- Demonstrate strong human relations skills.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Interact professionally with students and parents.
- Use computers software keyboards and 10-key tools effectively.
- Apply accounting and secretarial skills as needed.
- Utilize knowledge of student transportation operations.
- Assist with special education transportation including legal considerations.
- Apply knowledge of Edulog routing software.
- Maintain extensive working knowledge of roadways bus routes local conditions and USD 500 requirements.
- Coordinate with duty administrators to ensure safe student transportation.
- Delegate tasks to subordinates when appropriate; assist with daily logs attendance tracking and documentation.
- Support the Director in working with staff and parents from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Hold a valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Pass all required drug screenings in accordance with Board of Education policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of computers and software programs.
- Keyboarding proficiency.
- Ability to use existing technology effectively.
- Willingness to complete necessary training on web-based routing software and automated systems.
- Ability to use various computer programs including Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Edulog system and equipment.
- Functional knowledge of transportation guidelines for regular and special education students; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with District-Approved Programs requiring transportation.
- Geographic knowledge of USD 500 boundaries and surrounding areas.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators community members and Transportation staff.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
Communication & Organization:
- Maintain open communication with district staff and parents.
- Participate in unit meetings in-service training workshops and information sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support efficient unit operations.
- Serve in the dispatch role as needed to ensure uninterrupted operation of the department.
Reasoning Ability:
- Perform technical tasks and upgrade skills as job demands evolve.
- Operate office equipment and software applications effectively.
- Plan organize and manage projects.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Solve problems independently using established guidelines.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced office setting with high noise levels.
- Frequent interaction with staff drivers parents and administrators.
Language Skills:
- Understand written procedures and compose routine written documents.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.
- Analyze issues and draw logical conclusions.
- Apply knowledge of personnel processes policies regulations and school transportation laws.
- Work with diverse individuals and datasets while maintaining confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
- Requires some lifting carrying pushing pulling and significant finger dexterity.
- Typically: 70% sitting 10% walking 20% standing.
- Work performed in a clean and healthy office environment.
