About the role

  • TheSeniorMediaSpecialistwill engage withleading nationaland local media outlets and members of the media and contribute to the Communications teamsobjectivesby developing and executing media plans for campaigns corporate announcementsandresponding to issues.
  • Telstras overall success is enabled by having a Media team that contributes to protecting and enhancing Telstras reputation.
  • The position reports to the Head of External Channels & Media.


IMPORTANT NOTE: the role is HYBRID and can be based in Melbourne Sydney or Brisbane. Attendance in the office or on-site for specific events will be required from time to time. Interstate travel may be required on occasion.

What Youll Do

  • Media liaison for proactive pitchingand reactive media enquiries.
  • Develop and deliver on media plans tosupport campaigns projectsand majorannouncements andissues.
  • Partner with Campaigns Owned Editorial and Social Media teams within Communications to ensure media activity is fully integrated as needed.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery ofTelstras mediaengagement strategy.
  • Develop media content (releases statements messages) for campaigns and issues.
  • Manageday-to daymedia enquiries and related issues ina timelyeffectiveand efficient manner.
  • Conduct media trainingfor relevant executives.
  • Act as Telstra spokesperson asappropriate.
  • Develop and strengthen media relationships this can be indigitalbroadcast and print.
  • Managemajor and minor issuesarising from media enquiries including developing messages for social and employee channels.
  • Provide strategic advice tothe Communications Senior Leadership Teamand Executiveson media plans execution and issues.
  • Build andmaintainstakeholder relationships internally and withnationalmedia.
  • Conduct research reporting and share insights on media performance for campaigns and issues.

About You

To be successful in the roleyoullbring skills and experience in:

  • Media relationsdeep knowledge andunderstanding ofthe Australian medialandscape with proven experience effectively engaging with news and editorial relationships with mainstream media outlets and journalists expected.
  • Relationship management forming andmaintainingrelationships with key media stakeholders and managing media and broadcast relationships including TV and radio digitalprintand emergingchannelsand platforms.
  • Writing ability to construct concise and compelling messages that connect with the audienceand deliver compelling verbalcommunicationeven when contentiouswith confidence influence and sensitivity.
  • Project management overseeing multiple projects and campaigns with competing deadlines while also effectively managing incoming enquires.
  • Influencing and stakeholder management with an ability to provide strategic communication counsel toseniorexecutives.
  • Deep understanding of media channels including digital and socialwith knowledge and experience ofwhen and how to use eachmedium to reach a target audience and achieve cut through.
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Tertiary qualified in communicationsjournalismor other relevant discipline.
  • Experience in telecommunications and technology related industries or ASX listed business would be an advantage.
