Information & Technology Services (iTECS) is a division within the Scottish Governments Digital Directorate delivering corporate ICT services to the Scottish Government and more than 50 public sector bodies as part of a shared service supporting approximately 22000 users. The Cloud Platforms and Engineering team focuses on creating and maintaining robust scalable and secure platforms that enable efficient development deployment and management of digital services.

In this role you will maintain and optimise modern cloud and platform services ensuring services are secure reliable and aligned with business needs. Youll maintain accurate configurations and asset information lead the resolution of incidents and handle complex change requests. By monitoring trends and identifying potential issues youll help prevent problems before they impact users. Youll contribute to service design maintain documentation and standards and work collaboratively across DDaT to deliver platforms that meet performance targets and security requirements. Your goal is to provide high-quality future-ready digital infrastructure that supports public services and delivers excellent outcomes for users across Scotland.



Responsibilities
  • Manage Microsoft cloud platform components such as M365 and Azure to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.
  • Maintain secure configuration and accurate information controlling IT assets in one or more significant areas.
  • Deal with high-impact complex change requests.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of incidents.
  • Take accountability for issues that occur and be proactive in searching for potential problems.
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems.
  • Determine preventative measures.
  • Draft and maintain procedures and documentation.
  • Set standards for the definition security and integrity of objects and ensure conformity to these standards.

Success Profile

Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of experience skills and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.

Experience:

  1. Lead Criteria 1: Able to provide business and technical leadership to a team of experienced technologists often working in a pressured environment with a demanding workload to deliver solutions for customers.
  2. Lead Criteria 2: An in-depth knowledge of Standards associated with Microsoft Cloud Platform IT practice nationally and internationally and how they should be applied and experience of compliance.
  3. Extensive experience of Service Management Risk Management and Project Management methodologies to plan and develop and protect future facing solutions to address the shifting strategic priorities of the business.
  4. Excellent oral and written communications skills with a proficiency in conveying with both technical and mainstream audiences at all levels.

Experience is assessed at sift along with a more in-depth assessment at interview.

Technical Skills:

This role is aligned to the Infrastructure Operations Engineer job role within the IT Operations job family.

These skills are assessed by technical assessment designed to represent the role. Candidates reaching this stage will receive a Technical Assessment Candidate Pack which outlines the specific skills to be assessed plus the method of assessment.

Working pattern

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week we offer flexible working including full-time part-time flexitime and compressed hours depending on the needs of the role.

This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital Data and Technology (DDAT) profession as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a 5000.00 annual DDAT pay supplement applicable after a 3-month competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
