About the Role
Schneps Media New Yorks top-ranked local news organization is seeking an energetic reporter to join our Bronx Times team. This is an opportunity to cover the stories that matter most to Bronx residentsfrom City Hall decisions and school board meetings to neighborhood development and community leaders shaping the boroughs future.
Youll be reporting for the Bronx Times and Bronx Times Reporter plus the go-to digital source for Bronx news and events. Your work will reach readers both in print and online building on Schneps Medias legacy of award-winning journalism.
What Youll Do
Cover local government politics education business and community news across the Bronx
Attend city council meetings community board sessions school events and breaking news situations
Develop and maintain relationships with local officials community leaders educators and neighborhood sources
Report and write compelling stories that inform Bronx residents about issues impacting their daily lives
File stories for print editions and digital platforms including and social media channels
Pitch enterprise stories that go beyond daily news coverage
Photograph or capture video to accompany stories when needed
Work collaboratively with editors and fellow reporters across Schneps Medias newsroom
What Were Looking For
Bachelors degree in journalism communications or related field
Strong news writing and reporting skills with attention to accuracy and detail
Ability to work on deadline and manage multiple stories simultaneously
Curiosity about local government education and community issues
Comfort interviewing diverse sources and attending events throughout the borough
Basic photography/multimedia skills or willingness to learn
Familiarity with AP style
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation preferred
Previous internship or college newspaper experience is a plus
