Assists major trades in the numerous and various types of maintenance work throughout the hospital complex (trades include mechanical electrical carpentry plumbing etc.).
Responsibilities- Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks
- Obtains tools runs errands transports equipment assists mechanic with alterations and repairs as instructed.
- Keeps shops clean and insures that arears where repairs are being made are left in a clean and safe condition. The apprentice shall conduct himself/herself in a manner to best assure his/her own safety as well as the safety of his coworkers.
- Performs minor repair work such as clearing stoppages changing bulbs replacing washers etc. as directed by foreman.
- Assists Stationary engineer Head Mechanic HVAC or Refrigeration Mechanic in the installation service and/or repair of Industrial/commercial boilers or all related plant equipment. Records temperature and pressures readings of all plant equipment.
- Assembles disassembles tests and repairs components such as motors controls switches gauges valves pumps compressors pipes tubes etc. Advises his supervisor of any operations deficiency and any necessary maintenance and repair supplies needed.
- Carries out emergency duties when necessary.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical psychosocial educational safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients.
- Probation: Apprentices shall be subject to a probationary period not to exceed sixty (60) days. A probationary extension is granted at the discretion of the Employer. At any time during the probationary period the apprentice can be disestablished from the program.
- Apprentices shall faithfully and diligently perform the work of assisting a stationary engineer or maintenance mechanic.
- Related Instruction: The apprentice is responsible to attend regularly and complete satisfactorily the required hours of Related Instruction as provided in this standard as well as to maintain accurate work records and training in order to train and develop the apprentice into a skilled craftsman insofar as the individual facility will allow. Unsatisfactory attendance for Related Instruction or the hospital policy will result in disciplinary action.
- Related Instruction shall include three years of formal education each year consisting of a minimum of three hundred (300) hours of formal training. Apprentice is required to have or obtain refrigeration license within 90 days of employment

- Three (3) years of formal education each year consisting of a minimum of three hundred (300) hours of formal training.
