What you will be doing

The Telecommunications Specialist executes the daily operations of the Colleges telecommunications systems including cellular services landlines and VoIP and manages all telecom-related tickets submitted via the Colleges Technology Service Desk.

The Telecommunications Specialist acts as the Colleges telecom SME and interacts with all levels of employees from entry level employees to executive and all departments of the College and supports them with any telecom/mobile device related issues. This position works closely with the Infrastructure and Core Services team as well as the Service Delivery and Operations team.

The Telecommunications Specialist is also the primary technical point of contact for all the Colleges telecom vendors (Bell Bell Aliant Bell Mobility DSM) and interacts with our vendors Tier 1 call centres and Account Executive on all matters related to the Colleges telecom systems and operations.

Specific duties include

  • Coordinates and performs all the required telecommunications activities related to VoIP Centrex landlines and mobility services including changes adds moves and device and service fulfilment as well as other related duties required to support the Colleges telecommunications services.
  • Ensures accurate and timely billing of telecommunications services analyses billing data and makes recommendations examines billing anomalies and resolves billing discrepancies. Completes trending and analysis of telecom spend and service needs including roaming and long-distance usage.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for College staff for both front-line support and escalations on all issues related to telecommunications working with anyone at the college who needs a cell phone or VoIP line to make sure their needs are met.
  • Manages all aspects of Microsoft 365 VoIP administration in partnership with a Senior Systems Administrator including tenant configuration (i.e. full administration of Teams calling in the Microsoft tenant.)
  • Liaises with our vendor partners to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner including porting numbers in and out in all aspects of the Colleges telecom systems and operations including service installation troubleshooting billing inquiries system upgrades number porting and general service support.
  • Manages and maintains telecommunication hardware and software inventory College wide.
  • Delivers technical support and training to end-users.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is completion of a College Diploma (Business IT).
  • A Certificate in ITIL v3/4 Foundation would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years of recent and related working with telecommunications systems administering VoIP systems in a medium-sized or large-sized enterprise environment.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail TeamDynamix or any Service and Asset Management tool telecom billing/reporting applications Adobe Sign and Microsoft Teams Administration.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
