Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (RN)

Schedule:
- 7:00 am 5:30 pm (410s) MondayFriday
- Rotational weekends and evenings on-call
- One weekday off (varies)
- Call: One weeknight every other week; on-call typically scheduled on regular workdays
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient-centered care within a fast-paced procedural environment. IR nurses at Springfield Memorial Hospital care for a wide variety of patientsfrom ambulatory outpatients undergoing minor procedures to critically ill inpatients requiring complex time-sensitive interventions such as stroke. This role requires a strong clinical foundation exceptional critical thinking and the ability to respond quickly to rapidly changing patient conditions. Unlike ICU or ED nursing the IR environment offers intense clinical engagement one patient at a time allowing the nurse to focus deeply while supporting a high-turnover workflow. As part of a Magnet hospital IR nurses are expected to embrace lifelong learning uphold high standards of clinical excellence and consistently exceed patient experience expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing IR procedures across seven imaging modalities including:
- CT
- Ultrasound
- Diagnostic X-ray
- Molecular Imaging
- MRI
- Baylis outpatient imaging
- Interventional procedural suites
- Perform and assist with a broad range of procedures including moderate sedation cardiac medication administration for imaging exams vascular access and pre-/post-procedural care.
- Monitor and manage hemodynamics vital signs sedation levels and procedural responses.
- Care for ICU IMC and ED patients requiring IR interventions.
- Maintain proficiency in IV placement dressing assessment medication administration and procedural readiness.
- Function as the sole nurse in the procedure room collaborating closely with radiology technologists physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support a fast-paced high-turnover setting while maintaining patient safety compassion and calm communication.
- Document all assessments interventions and procedural events accurately and promptly.

Qualifications
Required:
- Active RN license in the state of Illinois (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum 12 years of experience in ICU ED or PACU
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking rapid clinical assessment and independent decision-making skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic technologically advanced environment with a wide procedural scope
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred:
- Experience with procedural sedation
- Charge nurse experience (e.g. cardiac or dialysis)
- Familiarity with caring for critically ill patients outside of traditional inpatient units
