Job Summary:

The Workday Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST) is responsible for the administration and optimization of Workday and related systems for Finance Human Resources and Research Administration across the Universities of Wisconsin while focusing on people processes and technology. The WEST Data and Reporting team supports data and reporting needs across the UW universities and the UW System through the development and maintenance of an enterprise data warehouse (the Enterprise Analytics Platform EAP) Tableau dashboards Workday reports BIRT reports Prism reports Workday dashboards and discovery boards and more.

We are seeking an experienced Tableau Developer to develop document support and maintain enterprise-level Tableau dashboards built on top of EAP. This individual will also participate in appropriate communities of practice and training to ensure a consistent understanding of data across the UW and to raise awareness of resources that already exist and those that are planned. It is expected that there will be close collaboration between the Tableau developer data warehouse engineers and Workday report developers moving forward.

To be successful in this position you will need to intentionally collaborate with customers and peers across WEST and actively foster a respectful inclusive and safe team environment.

Schedule will be determined with the selected finalist upon hire. The primary schedule will be during business hours on Monday through Friday beginning no later than 9:00AM CST and ending no earlier than 3:00PM CST. There is no expectation of on-call or off-hour work. However during a critical outage working off hours and weekends may be required.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates in Tableau communities of practice knowledge sharing and training to raise awareness of resources that are available and coming in the pipeline

  • Designs and documents enterprise BI development standards assesses impact on existing BI projects proposes solutions and shepherds them through stakeholder feedback and governance approval. Resolves highly complex BI development issues escalated from lower-level BI developers
  • Works with multiple data domains/sets and data architectures (unstructured/structured) and using advanced expertise in a broad set of enterprise-scale tools matches the right data presentation modality to user requirements. Employs deep expertise in data visualization and storytelling to design prototype test and deliver accurate sustainable enterprise solutions for large-scale user populations
  • Review and approve based on scope and requirements BI developer resource effort and timing to design build test and release BI developer solutions. Understand and balance developer resources across multiple competing projects to mitigate risks. Identify options for backfill or external resource acquisition to fulfil resource requirements
  • Partners with a team of business analysts business subject matter experts (SMEs) source system data analysts data architects and ETL developers to interpret documented user requirements for enterprise-wide stakeholders. Works with data warehouse architects data modelers and ETL developers to document and present highly complex options through mock-ups and prototypes refining underlying data structures to best meet use cases
  • Oversee assess and approve the content and quality of complex design/build documentation for approval by business SMEs and project team leads. Author documentation for highly complex design/build documentation outside of the expertise of lower level BI developers

Well qualified applicants can expect to earn between $80000 - $105000 with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
