Position Overview
- Responsible for working collaboratively with Chair Medical Director of PAT and PAT staff management to develop implement maintain and strengthen new and existing programs of care in perioperative medicine preoperative clinical evaluation and laboratory testing.
- Support PAT management clinical staff and function through:
- Serve as medical liaison/point of contact for APCs working in the PAT function and for anesthesiology of surgery clinical providers with inquiries related to PAT process scheduling and other functions.
- Provide assistance with chart review when requested by management and staff for complex clinical circumstances other queries or when necessary to manage efficiently the delivery of services by the clinic.
- Co-sign orders placed by non-physician providers of the PAT service.
- Collaborate with anesthesiology and surgery clinical domain leaders to assess and improve where opportunities exist enhanced recovery after surgery perioperative care pathways.
- Collaborate when asked to work with colleague physicians CRNAs surgeons nursing staff and administration to address matters related to the issues where PAT function impacts:
- access (including length of stay)
- patient experience
- quality metrics
- patient safety
- documentation to include accuracy of co-morbidity identification and care implications in support of accurate coding
- Provide educational support and clinical expertise regarding policies care pathway development procedures clinical guidelines technology and therapeutics to advance the periprocedural anesthetic care.
- Supervise and educate medical trainees and other learners who may include physician residents medical students advanced practice clinicians and student nurses.
- Participate in quality reviews of anesthesia care as requested by Chair or Vice Chair for Quality.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair of Anesthesiology subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Chair of Anesthesiology.
