Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity
Working as part of the Financial Planning and Analytics team you will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial insights and analysis that enable senior leaders to make informed decisions in a complex changing environment. Based adjacent to the Universitys City Campus your focus will be a mix of project work to understand the financial implications of strategic decisions and contributing to central management reporting.
Youll engage closely with business units across the University building understanding monitoring performance and identifying risks and opportunities. This includes regular forecasting budget reviews and the preparation of insightful financial reports.
This role is well-suited to someone with a strong foundation in data analysis financial modelling and the ability to draw clear conclusions and provide actionable recommendations. Your analytical depth and ability to clearly communicate complex financial information will be critical to your success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to assess trends monitor forecasts and budgets and deliver clear financial insights.
- Business Case Support: Ensure business cases are well-analysed data-informed and strategically aligned.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial and operational processes.
- Strategic Business Partnering: Build strong working relationships deliver excellent customer service and improve financial understanding across the University.
- Coaching & Mentoring: Support the development of analyst colleagues and foster a collaborative team culture.
- Equity & Inclusion: Champion the Universitys commitment to Māori Te Tiriti o Waitangi and inclusive equity-led practices.
This is a 12-month fixed-term full-time role (37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday) with a salary range of $126000$138000 per annum depending on experience.

Youre someone who thrives on planning and analysis with strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate insights effectively. You enjoy being part of a team but are equally confident working independently and engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
Modelling capability in Workday Adaptive Planning is highly desirable.
You will bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification preferably with a major in accounting finance or data analytics.
- Membership (or working towards membership) with CAANZ CPA or an equivalent accounting body.
- A strong track record 10 years of working with financial and operational data to generate evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience in large complex organisations with knowledge of advanced financial systems and tools.
- Excellent communication skillswritten and verbal.
- A proactive service-oriented approach with the ability to build effective relationships.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
