The Nguyen lab at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at University Health Network is excited to recruit a new addition to the team who is passionate about scientific research and motivated to make an impact in the field. Our lab combines experimental work with cell lines and patient-derived tumour xenograft models with advanced computational analysis approaches to understand clonal heterogeneity in human breast cancer as it pertains to disease progression and drug resistance. Our lab collaborates with other research labs across Canada and Europe and we are looking for someone who will integrate well into this team. Interest in our area of research is important but direct experience in this field is not necessary.
We seek a Research Technician I or II who will primarily be performing wet-lab experiments. It is essential that the technician have experience with sterile technique for in vitro cell culture and be willing to receive appropriate training to perform animal work in expanding and maintaining our patient-derived tumour xenograft biobank. Expertise in molecular biology such as CRISPR/Cas9 technology and library preparation for next-generation sequencing are an asset.
The technician will also prepare animal protocols (AUP) order lab consumables and supervise students as appropriate. Given the nature of this position they will be expected to work primarily on-site. We are located in the MaRS complex Princess Margaret Cancer Research Tower (PMCRT) at 101 College St Toronto.
For additional information about out lab: :
- At minimum BSc or higher degree in biology molecular biology or a similar field of study
- At least two (2) years of experience with standard cell and molecular biology laboratory techniques such as:
- Experience with PCR reaction set up and purification
- Next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing library preparation
- Tissue dissociation and/or in vitro cell culture
- Live mouse handling
- Lentiviral packaging and transduction
- Flow cytometry
- A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and Powerpoint
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Meticulous and detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
