Are you a parts professional captivated by the dynamic changes in the industry and want to work for an organization that is focused on delivering the next generation of fleet management and mobility The City of Seattle is seeking aFleet Parts Specialist (Senior Warehouser-BU) to join our team of highly skilled professionals that ensure vehicles stay on the road to help City departments provide services to Seattle residents.

The Fleet Parts Specialist is a linchpin of shop operations and joins other fleet professionals from the mechanic body and metal shops to ensure that the Citys equipment is safe to use and available when needed. This is a very collaborative role with a focus on partnering with others to get the right part the first time when it is needed. An average day will be comprised of several different duties and activities. These may change daily based on operational needs so flexibility and being proactive is essential. Good communication is a key to operational efficiency both within the parts team and when communicating with the shops. Similarlyaccuracy is critical. There are a lot of moving pieces in the Fleet Operations environment so the ability to manage time and quickly shift gears is a highly valued skill.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the mechanical parts of a wide variety of vehicles equipment and components will be self-motivated able to work under general guidance to support overall team goals and will be available to work assigned shifts between the hours of 6:00am-midnight. Shift assignments are rotated based on operational needs. All fleet operations personnel are part of city emergency responses and must be available for overtime and on-call schedules when needed.


ABOUT US
Fleet Management is a division within the Finance and Administrative Services (FAS)Department. The Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) is often the publics first interaction with the City of Seattle operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet. The 500-plus employees of FAS span across 10 divisions and work behind-the-scenes providing critical functions like managing 120 City facilitiesincluding police and fire stationsoverseeing the Citys neighborhood customer service centers and Customer Service Bureau and making sure minority-owned businesses can equitably compete for City contracts. No matter the need FAS is hereat your service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with mechanics and other operations teams to identify parts needed for repair and maintenance
  • Utilize manufacturer and vendor resources to source specialized parts for light and heavy-duty vehicles construction and off-road equipment and specialized/customized city assets.
  • Proactively engage with operations supervisors to evaluate parts acquisition timing and costs
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with contracted and non-contracted vendors to ensure reliable and accurate parts supplies
  • Respond to parts requests and update special order information in a consistent and timely manner because good communication is the key to operational efficiency
  • Perform routine parts management duties such as cycle counts and perpetual inventory shipping and receiving parts pick up and deliveries
  • Create and manage purchase orders bill parts on repair orders process vendor invoices
  • Work in a standardized manner as part of a team to support multiple locations
  • Lead and train other team members and support daily operations
  • Other independent and collaborative duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

One (1) year of warehousing or parts experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of this position).

  • Able to work any shift between 6am-midnight.
  • Requires current State of Washington drivers license.


Desired Qualifications (any combination):

  • Experience providing excellent customer service and using sound professional judgment
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment parts and components
  • Experience using parts catalogs and the internet to research and obtain parts for vehicle and equipment subsystems
  • Parts retail or wholesale counter experience
  • Experience working in a lead capacity
  • ASE Parts Specialist certification

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work any shift between 6am-midnight.
  • Ability to handle and work with materials containing toxic/hazardous substances.

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $ 38.99 - $42.97 per hour.

Background Check:Applicants must successfully pass a background check which will be conducted in accordance with Seattles Fair Chance Employment Ordinance SMC 14.17. Applicants will be given a chance to explain or correct background information and provide verifiable information of good conduct and rehabilitation.

Pre-Employment Physical: Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.


Driving Record: A current FULL driving abstract from the Department of Licensing is required to be submitted upon offer of employment. Candidates with driving history that does not meet our current safety standards will be disqualified from consideration. Current City of Seattle Employees in a driving position may be required to submit an updated abstract.
