Job Summary

The Assistant Director South Campus is a full-time live-in professional responsible for leading the day-to-day administration of a residential neighborhood fostering a campus environment that supports academic achievement student development and community engagement. This position provides supervision direction and support to Community Directors as they enforce residential rules and regulations respond to urgent and emergency situations mediate conflicts and manage student conduct within the residential community.
As a visible leadership figure and role model the Assistant Director collaborates closely with University partners including Boston University Police Department (BUPD) the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution Student Health Services and academic units to ensure prompt and thorough responses to community issues. The Assistant Director chairs departmental committees assumes responsibility for University-wide residential program assignments and serves on the Residence Life administrator on-call rotation requiring availability for evening weekend and campus-wide urgent matters.
This role is accountable for the overall development and administration of a residential program that integrates learning opportunities through initiatives such as the residence hall council specialty communities and the Faculty-in-Residence program. The Assistant Director leads neighborhood staff and student development efforts by creating a cohesive team among professional staff administrative personnel faculty-in-residence graduate resident assistants resident assistants and work-study staff.
Additionally the Assistant Director regularly represents the Residence Life department at University events including Parents Weekend Admissions Open Houses Commencement and Orientation. This position is critical to maintaining a supportive safe and engaging residential experience for all students in the South Campus community.
Essential Function 1: 30%
  • Lead the day-to-day administration of the South Campus community. Provide clear direction support and guidance to Community Directors regarding departmental expectations protocols and standard operating procedures. Maintain availability toneighborhood staff and students during business hours.
Essential Function 2: 10%
  • Intervene in crises and manage urgent situations; collaborate with a broad range of University officials in assisting students with the student life issues they face. Serve on-call for all residences as part of the Residence Life administrator on-call rotation.
Essential Function 3: 10%
  • Chair a departmental committee and assume responsibility for assignments that relate to administration of the residential program at both the University-wide and area levels.
Essential Function 4: 10%
  • Serve as a University conduct officer and coordinate all conduct activity within the South Campus community.
Essential Function 5: 20%
  • Train supervise and evaluate the Community Directors and Administrative Coordinators. Create a strong team among professionals administrative staff faculty-in-residence graduate resident assistants resident assistants and work-study staff.
Essential Function 6: 20%
  • Lead initiatives to promote learning in the living centers including the Residence Hall Association specialty communities and the faculty-in-residence.

Required Skills

  • B.A./B.S. required masters preferred and three years of experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service organizational and problem-solving skills; attention to detail.
