Basic Job Functions:
The VNE Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of steel joists deck coils and other freight. This role requires strict adherence to DOT regulations and company policies with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork. Drivers must maintain accurate logs and records inspect and secure loads and verify paperwork. Driving schedules may vary including day and night shifts with little notice. Most evenings are spent at home.
Applicants must be at least 25 years old have a great driving and work record with no more than two preventable accidents in the past two years no more than three moving violations in the past three years (or two serious violations in the past three years) no violations for operating a CMV after being placed out of service no prior drug or DUI convictions in a commercial vehicle in lifetime no prior drug or DUI convictions a private vehicle in the previous 10 years no prior positive or refusal DOT drug and/or alcohol tests and must pass all DOT and company written driving and drug screen test and meet all DOT physical and skill requirements.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of verifiable commercial driving experience
- Current CDL Class A
Preferred Qualifications:
- Flatbed and oversize load experience
- Joist deck or steel coil hauling experience
