Job Summary

About the Position

Arts Centre Melbourne is seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior technician to join our dynamic lighting team for a maternity leave cover. This role is essential in supporting our production needs and ensuring the highest quality lighting for our performances.

This fixed term position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the Lighting Supervisors and our presenters. Senior Technicians provide skills at an advanced level across consoles follow spots and general lighting tasks. They also assist in overseeing lighting staff and participate in the operation of lighting equipment for pre-production rigging rehearsals performances and de-rigging of shows and events in line with presenters requirements.

12 Months Fixed Term Variable time approx. 25 hours per week. Band 2.3 Salary $71770 pro rata superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Support: Provide guidance coordination and mentorship within the Lighting Team to ensure smooth operations and uphold technical excellence.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of lighting systems including consoles and follow-spots to deliver outstanding production outcomes.
  • Operational Efficiency: Work closely with presenters to ensure seamless integration of lighting into all performances and events.
  • Skill Maintenance: Stay current with industry advancements contributing to the continuous professional development of the team.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Console Programming: Demonstrated proficiency in ETC Eos and/or GrandMA consoles.
  • Follow-spot Operation: Proven experience in operating follow spots for live performances.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to lead mentor and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Resource Management: Expertise in optimising resources during peak production periods.
  • Venue Knowledge: Deep understanding of venue operations working effectively with presenters and ensuring continuity across productions.
  • Commitment to Excellence: Dedication to maintaining and enhancing technical skills and staying abreast of industry innovations.

Desired Qualifications & Certifications

While not mandatory the following qualifications are highly valued:

  • Technical Certifications: Basic or Intermediate Riggers License Elevated Work Platform License and Test & Tag certification.
  • Safety Training: Fire Emergency Warden training Work Safely at Heights certification and knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety protocols.
  • Specialised Knowledge: Familiarity with in-house equipment relevant to the role.

The Business Unit

The Production department sits within the Performing Arts pillar and comprises of a team that delivers production services for ACM across Staging Lighting Audio Broadcast Wardrobe Stage Management and Safety/Training to enable the safe and efficient delivery of events across all of our venues and spaces.
