HIPPY Home Tutor

At Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL) we are seeking a passionate HIPPY Home Tutor to join our dedicated Community Programs Team.

Location: Flemington

Job Type: Maximum Term Part-Timeworking 15.2hours per week

Salary: $70557.77 to $76984.39 per annum based on skills and experience plus 12% superannuation. (pro-rata for part-time employment)

About the role

Tutors (Mentors) are employed for 2 years to provide peer support and deliver the HIPPY planned play-based activities to approximately 10-15 parents and children in a positive and engaging way during Home Visits and HIPPY Gatherings.

  • Attend BSL induction and initial HIPPY preservice training on commencement of employment and other training as required.
  • Meet with HIPPY families on a weekly/fortnightly basis to roleplay and deliver HIPPY materials in the home or a gathering.
  • Assist the Coordinator to plan and deliver Gatherings or events
  • Network with parents with young children (2-4 years old) and other community members to encourage enrolments and retention and to promote positive awareness of HIPPY as requested by Coordinator
  • Adhere to child safety and critical incident polices and procedure

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Be a participating parent in the HIPPY Program or have recently (within 12 months of his/her appointment as a Tutor) been a participating parent in HIPPY.
  • Willing to work within the HIPPY program for a maximum of 2 years.
  • Interest and enthusiasm in supporting other parents and children with the ability to utilise a positive and encouraging approach and to work flexibly.
  • Have good oral communication and a good level of literacy in English including reading and writing that will support delivery of the program.
