DescriptionAs a Senior Income Tax Accountant for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you will work directly with expatriate employees and other Church employees to help them remain compliant with current tax laws and required tax reporting which helps safeguard sacred funds for the Churchs religious mission that is under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders. This senior/lead level individual contributor position performs accounting tasks associated with the maintenance and preparation of tax records and tax returns.
ResponsibilitiesThis role will combine an understanding of Church organization culture and interests with expert industry-level technical expertise. This role assists in preparing and reviewing federal state and local individual tax returns and related reconciliations statements or records.
- Tax Preparation: Prepare and review individual tax returns and tax equalization reconciliations with extreme range of complexity. Ensure compliance with federal state and local tax laws.
- Tax Planning and Client Advisory: As needed meet with Church employees and Church leaders to prepare and advise on tax projections estimated payments and tax withholdings.
- Document Review: Review tax documents workpapers and financial records for accuracy and compliance and ensure the correct application of tax laws.
- Staff Supervision: Provide training mentorship and support to seasonal tax preparers.
- Technology Support: Demonstrate expertise in Microsoft Office Suite Adobe Acrobat and tax software applications. Quickly learn adapt to and implement new software or processes while providing guidance and technical support to colleagues.
- Audit Support: On rare occasions manage or assist with tax audits coordinate with tax agencies and ensure the accuracy of tax-related data.
Tax Knowledge: Keep up to date with changing tax laws and regulations and counsel with senior management of significant impacts.
Qualifications- Requires a bachelors degree in accounting finance economics business management or related field.
- 6 years of applicable work experience.
- Possesses expert working knowledge of income tax issues.
- Has a current CPA or EA (Enrolled Agent certification).
- Possesses ability to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills analytical thinking skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Is detail oriented.
- Has solid computer word processing and database management skills.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment.
- Preferred: Ability to lead the work of others.
