Were hiring an Education Deputy Advisor to serve as Public Engagement Director within the Office of the Chief of Staff. This role is part of LDOEs Communications Division that functions as a strategic partner to program offices and works to deliver clarity trust and results.
In this role youll lead and execute public-facing communications and engagement ensuring that our highest-impact initiatives reach the audiences theyre designed to serve. Youll oversee strategy supervise staff and also create content from social media and newsletters to executive communications and stakeholder outreach.

- Proven ability to develop and execute communication strategies that support large-scale initiatives or policy goals
- Exceptional writing editing and proofreading skills across a range of content types (e.g. social media newsletters speeches stakeholder messages)
- Experience managing or supporting public engagement platforms such as call centers help desks or digital inquiry systems
- Demonstrated ability to create accessible plain-language content for public-facing audiences
- Familiarity with state government education policy or legislative processes
- Comfort leading and supervising staff while also independently managing projects from start to finish
- Proficiency with tools such as Google Workspace Microsoft Outlook Constant Contact Adobe Creative Cloud and website CMS platforms
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Minimum Qualifications
Nine years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus six years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
A bachelors degree plus six years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus five years of experience in education teaching or administrative services.

Job Duties:
As the Education Deputy Advisor / Public Engagement Director you will serve as a key member of the Communications team and a trusted advisor to agency leadership. Youll drive strategy and execution for public engagement internal communication and executive-level messagingwhile upholding our team values of clarity trust and results.
In this role you will:
- Develop and execute communications strategies that support Louisianas education priorities and key initiatives under the BRAVE plan
- Create content directly including social media posts stakeholder messages newsletters press releases talking points and legislative communications
- Oversee and manage public engagement tools such as the AskLDOE platform and call center operations to ensure timely accurate responses
- Lead internal communications efforts such as the weekly executive update monthly newsletter and additional employee-wide updates
- Serve as a communications liaison to the Chief of Staff supporting public remarks legislative prep and BESE communications
- Supervise team members contributing to public engagement social media and stakeholder outreach
- Collaborate across program offices to ensure communications are accurate aligned and effective
- Hold work to high standards of clarity accessibility responsiveness and brand consistency
- Track engagement and effectiveness and adjust tactics based on data
- Proactively improve systems identify gaps and raise the quality and impact of agency communications
Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type:Probational Promotional or Job Appointment.The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office.Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if selected.
Work Schedule:Work hours are Monday - Friday. Work hours will be determined.
Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Deputy Advisor series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these position.The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and notthe maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
