Senior Backend Engineer ( AWS)

We are kicking off a new strategic initiative to build a state-of-the-art API Gateway that will serve as the central mobile-facing entry point for our e-commerce ecosystem. This gateway will orchestrate communication between Shopware Contentful Keycloak and our broader integration layer and will act as a long-term high-availability core component of our architecture.

You will take ownership of the implementation phase working from an existing concept and SRS draft and driving this solution toward a robust scalable and production-ready this role you will design and build performant services integrate multiple systems and ensure the platform meets enterprise-grade reliability observability and security standards.

Responsibilities:

• Implement and maintain a high-performance API Gateway that powers mobile applications and integrates with multiple backend systems.
• Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to refine the SRS shape the technical direction and ensure alignment with long-term architectural goals.
• Develop backend services using (Fastify) with a focus on low latency scalability and maintainability.
• Integrate external systems such as Shopware Contentful Keycloak and other third-party platforms.
• Design caching and rate-limiting mechanisms using Redis/ElastiCache and leverage CloudFront for edge optimization.
• Ensure robust authentication and authorization flows based on OAuth2/OIDC standards.
• Deploy and operate services on AWS (ECS/Fargate EKS or Lambda) ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
• Establish end-to-end observability for the platform using DataDog (metrics logs tracing).
• Conduct performance tuning capacity planning and resilience improvements.
• Write clean well-tested and maintainable code following best practices.
• Take ownership of the solution lifecyclefrom implementation and deployment to monitoring and continuous improvement.

Qualifications :

• 5 years of backend engineering experience with a strong focus on (Fastify preferred).
• Proven experience designing and operating API Gateways BFFs (Backend-for-Frontend) or other high-traffic low-latency service layers.
• Deep hands-on experience with AWS services particularly ECS/Fargate EKS or Lambda along with CloudFront for edge caching.
• Experience implementing caching and rate-limiting strategies using Redis/ElastiCache or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of OAuth2/OIDC flows and practical integration experience with Keycloak.
• Integration experience with Shopware REST APIs Contentful and other third-party platforms.
• Solid background in observability especially with DataDog or similar monitoring platforms.
• Strong focus on code quality testing strategies performance and security best practices.
• Ability to take ownership work independently and deliver solutions that scale.

Nice to have

• Prior experience building or owning a mobile-optimized API Gateway or BFF in a production environment.
• Experience with Celigo (integration platform) and Cloudinary (media management).
• Familiarity with distributed system design patterns and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines IaC (Terraform/CDK) and automated deployments on AWS.
• Knowledge of edge performance optimization strategies for mobile applications.
• Experience in e-commerce or high-availability consumer platforms.
