General Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Regional School Nurse assigned to the district the School Nurse implements manages and delivers school health services to assigned schools. The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.

Salary:
The full salary range for this position is $42.59 - $51.82.Offers are made at the beginning of the range.

Assignment/Location:
This position will provide systemwide nursing coverage across multiple districts and programs. Primary duties include both short-notice and planned substitute coverage with the ability to travel to any assigned school. When not assigned to active coverage this role will support Health Services operations including onboarding quality improvement and special projects.

This position is 21 hrs/wk school year schedule and is limited duration through the end of the 2025-26 school year.It will close on Monday December 15 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Assess the critical health needs of students in schools i.e. review Emergency Care Plans (ECP) for students with life threatening medical conditions medically fragile students students with health concerns and/or requiring nursing treatments.
  2. Collaborate and consult with the Regional School Nurse administrators and other staff to identify school safety and environmental health needs.
  3. Assess the physical and emotional health of students within the scope of the School Nurse practice; initiate referrals for diagnosis and treatment of identified health needs; and communicate health concerns that impact learning to staff.
  4. Coordinate and implement mandated health screenings including referral and follow-up.
  5. Supervise train and delegate medication administration and nursing treatments as allowed by law.
  6. Provide health counseling and crisis intervention to students; serve as an advocate for the health rights of students and as a professional liaison between the school family and health community.
  7. Perform professional nursing tasks including emergency services.
  8. Serve as a resource for health education to the classroom teacher.
  9. Consult and collaborate with the Regional School Nurse staff parents and other professionals to assess student health status and make recommendations that are consistent with the individualized education plan.
  10. Collect health care services data.
Other Functions:
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Valid Washington State registered nurse (RN) license.
  2. Experience in pediatrics and willingness to delegate care in a school setting.
  3. Current CPR/First aid certification.
  4. Experience in the health care of school age children.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  1. BS degree in Nursing; valid Washington ESA certificate as a school nurse; school nurse experience in public or private schools.
  2. Experience working with community service agencies i.e. health professionals department of health social services.
  3. Experience providing health education training to individuals or in a classroom setting.
  4. Experience in pediatrics and the health care of school age children.

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. Exposed to diseases carried by students exposed to student noise levels.
  2. Ability to physically move and/or lift equipment varying in weight up to 35 lbs.
  3. Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
Employment Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  2. Proof of immunization/disease including MMR/Td/Hepatitis B/Varicella.
