JOB TITLE: Nishkam Community Cancer Care Connector
RESPONSIBLE TO: Project Lead
PURPOSE OF JOB: The role of the Community Cancer Care Connector will be to focus on providing a culturally sensitive "screening buddy" system where we will provide personalised support throughout the screening journey. Development of a structured referral pathway connecting community partners with local healthcare providers. Focus will be on deprived communities in Perry Barr and surrounding communities.

DURATION: Fixed term contract (end of 31st July 2028)
The role of the Community Cancer Care Connector will be to focus on providing support to increase cancer screening uptake among deprived and marginalised communities in Perry Barr by addressing cultural stigma limited awareness and language barriers.
Job description:
The Nishkam Community Cancer Care Connector will be responsible for the following elements of the project:
Host regular information stalls and engagement events in community and faith settings talking with care and sensitivity and in a way that is meaningful to their friends colleagues and the local community.
Listening to and consulting with all sections of the local community to gain an understanding of the problems faced by people going for screening and then to work towards finding effective solutions.
Develop links and relationships with local communities and various organisations.
Prepare for training community champions.
Train local residents as community champions
Communicate effectively with a wide range of people to build and sustain effective and positive relationships across public private community faith and voluntary sectors to develop relationships and joint working in support of the project.
Information and data collection for project monitoring and evaluation as required by the Funders.
Promote and publicise the Cancer Screening project in collaboration with partners.
Ensure the project is delivered as required as required by funders and meets KPIs.
Document and monitor all aspects of support and service delivery supporting data collection for audit
Act as advocate and facilitator to resolve issues that may be perceived as barriers to going for screening
Deliver person-centred self-management information and support
Write progress reports to share with partners and leadership teams
Work closely with the Project Lead to develop and maintain stakeholder maps and contact lists providing information on key relationships within primary and secondary care Public Health faith and voluntary sector groups.
Evaluate long term impacts ensure knowledge transfer to local services and prepare for the continued impact beyond the funding period.
Person Specification:
The right candidate for this role will have knowledge and experience in support work. The support worker will be able to demonstrate the commitment and cultural sensitivity it takes to working with individuals from ethnically diverse communities. This role is suitable for someone who is empathetic to people living with cancer.

Ability to show empathy and understand the difficulties faced by people going for screening
Demonstrate experience of managing a case load.
Demonstrate experience in working with marginalised communities.
Experience of supporting vulnerable members of society.
Ability to prioritise own workload.
Ability to ask sensitively about information needs.
Ability to work flexibly and enthusiastically with a team and on own initiative.
Accurate written communication of information.
Experience planning and delivering training and educational workshops.
Experience of setting up and delivering community support groups.
Understanding of and commitment to equality diversity and inclusion
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grades A-C).
NVQ3 or additional training to diploma level equivalent or equivalent through short courses.
Complete regular accurate reporting on activities attendance levels and participant feedback including case studies and session evaluations.
Managing sensitive information and following GDPR procedures.
Interpersonal and communication skills.
