POSITION DESCRIPTION:
What you will do at Precinct One
The Deputy Superintendent of Road and Bridge oversee the maintenance construction and repair of roads bridges and other public infrastructure. Responsibilities include managing field staff planning projects ensuring compliance with Road & Bridge standards along with Road & Bridge budget responsibilities and responding to public inquiries.
The successful candidate will collaborate with the Superintendent to provide strategic oversight of road trail and bridge operations and maintenance; ensure proper evaluation and acceptance of infrastructure delivered by partner agencies performing work in the Precincts right-of-way.
You will lead and develop Road & Bridge staff ensuring safe and efficient operations and consistent maintenance of road bridge and traffic control assets while promoting a culture of service and responsiveness to the community. Click or tap here to enter text.
This position is responsible for responding to emergencies assessing recovery needs and communicating the status of roads and bridges to the Superintendent Deputy Director and other appropriate parties. Direct the clearing and cleaning of roadways following accidents flooding snow ice windstorms road closures and other events. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure no roadway damage remains before approving the reopening of roads.

What you will bring to the Precinct
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in business administration Environmental Resources or a related field of study from an accredited college or university. Comparable years of experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Five (5) years in successful road and bridges maintenance and supervision of teams in a fast-paced results-driven environment.
Licensure:
Texas State Drivers License.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Prior experience with budget and project management.
Proficiency in one or more Microsoft software applications including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
Knowledge of Principles and practices of roadway and bridge maintenance and public relations
Ability to coach and lead staff as well as practice good budget management
Ability to work weekends holidays or other irregular hours when required
Skilled in employee management counseling disciplinary actions and training

About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners along with an elected county judge serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court the administrative head of the countys government.
With approximately 1.1 million residents Harris County Precinct One is a diverse urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct Ones multi-racial multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American 37 percent Latino 18 percent Anglo 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other.
Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precincts territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex Toyota Center Minute Maid Park and the Shell Energy Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College Rice University Texas Southern University the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 20 parks 11 community centers numerous hike-and-bike trails three maintenance service centers and several area offices all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
Physical Requirements:
This is a physically active position that requires exerting more than 50 pounds of force occasionally along with walking and sitting for long periods of time for fieldwork.
Work Environment:
This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment.
Exposure to various and extreme weather conditions temperature variations loud noises and possible dangerous chemicals could be encountered.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
