Under general supervision of the Violence Prevention Program (VPP) Supervisor the Intimate Partner Violence Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing direct support crisis intervention case management and advocacy for victims of intimate partner violence sexual assault and human trafficking that have been identified as victims in the medical center. Intervenes with patients assists in safety planning lethality assessment advocacy resource linkage and emotional support to victims of intimate partner violence sexual assault and human trafficking who are treated at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center.  Provides both practical advocacy services and support to intimate partner violence or sexual assault survivors and their children. 

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
    Works with survivors to formulate and maintain relevant and meaningful case plans.
    Develops and maintains case records that document services provided to survivors.
    Provides concrete case management and current effective inhouse and external resources to survivors.
    Interfaces with clients in the office and the community on a regular basis to help them negotiate community resources and achieve personal goals.  Develops individual action plans; serves as a role model for the client acts as an advocate and accompanies clients in court settings and provides crisis intervention and/or conflict mediation as needed. 
    Works cooperatively and professionally with hospital staff and displays an understanding of and performs all duties in accordance with the Hospitals Mission and Policies.  Communicates both verbally and through documentation with staff regarding the intervention outcome and resources provided.
    Advocates on behalf of survivors with community service providers.
    Meets regularly with survivors to support survivor empowerment.
    Conducts intakes and assessments with potential clients.
    Facilitates and/or co-facilitates support groups as assigned.
    Provides face-to-face assessment to survivors to determine intervention safety plan housing goals and objectives.
    Interacts with survivors and team members daily.
    Assists in the daily operations of the program as needed.  
    Participates in staff meetings case conferences and other meetings as needed.
    Builds service partnerships with communitybased organizations including participating on community task forces as assigned.
    Projects a good role model keeping confidentialities in dealing with clients/staff.
    Follows all VOCA grant goals objectives and outcomes.
    Attends trainings and continuing education activities as assigned. 
    Completes VOCA timesheets weekly.
    Participates in 24 hour on-call backup rotation.
    Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

Education & Experience - Required

    Bachelors degree in social work social science health human services or related field is required. Two (2) years of work experience with victims of domestic violence may be accepted in lieu of degree.
    Must possess a valid Maryland Non-Commercial Class and proof of current vehicle insurance.
Education & Experience - Preferred
    Two (2) years of work experience with victims of intimate partner violence preferred.
    Masters degree in social work or health-related field preferred. 
    Experience working in an acute hospital setting preferred
 
Knowledge Skills & Abilities

    Ability to have empathy and passion for working with victims of intimate partner violence. 
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel both inside and outside the organization including health care providers community providers and law enforcement.
    Knowledge of services available within the community.
    Ability to respond supportively to individuals in crisis and assemble relevant facts.
    Knowledge of and interest in related issues; particularly the dynamics of intimate partner violence stalking strangulation human trafficking and sexual assault.  
    Ability to complete multiple duties and tasks correctly and on time without being prompted.
    Ability to use Information Technology including the Internet social media and Microsoft Office Suite products.
    Ability to learn and use programspecific computer applications.
    Ability to work cooperatively as a team splitting duties and working together to provide the best services possible to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families.
    Strong attention-to-detail and organizational skills.
    Weekend shift work holiday on-call and overtime may be required.  
    May be required to use their personal automobile while conducting official business.
