Job Summary

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the warden will serve as the associate warden and assume responsibilities of the warden in the wardens absence.
Assist in the planning direction and coordination of all security activities classification and operations of lee correctional institution.
Perform duties governed by broad instructions in accordance with established policies and functions in the area where decision making is critical due to constantly changing conditions and problems.
Must interpret laws policies and operating procedures of all employees and inmates and inform public officials and other interested persons about the operation of the institution.
Corresponds with inmates and persons in various public and private segments of society.
Prepares reports studies regulations and policies for submission to higher authority.
This position specifically supervises the restrictive housing unit its employees and inmates.
On call 24/7 work hours may vary.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelors degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the division of state human resources).

A high school diploma and ten (10) years experience in correctional security military or police work including five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for up to 1/2 of required supervisory experience (associate 2 years bachelors and above 2 1/2 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
