JOB POSITION #214: B&M Maintenance Technician

DAYS WORKED: Mon. Fri. HOURS WORKED: 7:00am 3:30pm

JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees officials and all members of the general public.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
Works under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Superintendent.
May supervise support personnel or other part-time or temporary staff as assigned.
Repairs and maintains structures and equipment at City Owned facilities; make minor repairs independently and works as a crew member on larger projects; identifies building problems and appropriate method of repair.
Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including the repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures painting repair wood work and flooring construction welding and fabrication and concrete work.
Participates in remodeling and small construction projects; works from plans and blueprints and from verbal instructions; utilizes a variety of hand and power too.
Inspects mechanical equipment for defects and make necessary repairs.
Performs some custodial duties as assigned.
Performs routine building and grounds inspections for preventative maintenance.
Performs routine maintenance on motors electrical problems carpentry plumbing heating air conditioning boilers and other related mechanical equipment.
Operates a wide range of vehicles and motorized equipment including but not limited to: backhoe water truck bobcat and forklift
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned.
Assists other personnel of Building Maintenance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position is subject to the Citys Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing post-accident testing random testing reasonable suspicion testing return-to-duty testing and follow-up testing.
Extensive background checks required.
A pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol test is required for this position.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance.
Valid New Mexicos drivers license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
Must possess strong computer skills.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Knowledge to include use of common hand and power tools for maintenance carpentry plumbing and electrical work; compressors acetylene and oxygen welders pneumatic calibration gauges detection devices motor vehicle mobile radio phone.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and may occasionally move up to 75 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals and may work with chemicals such as paint lacquer and paint-thinner.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud but normally quiet to moderate.
