General Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment within Oterras manufacturing operations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and promoting a safe working environment across the site by coordinating safety programs training inspections and incident investigations. This role ensures compliance with federal state and local safety regulations and company policies while fostering a proactive safety culture that prioritizes employee well-being and operational excellence.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the sites Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs.
- Conduct routine safety inspections audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Lead and document incident investigations root cause analyses and near-miss reporting.
- Coordinate and deliver safety-related training including new hire orientation lockout/tagout hazard communication and emergency response.
- Maintain accurate safety records reports and documentation in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with OSHA EPA and other applicable health and safety regulations.
- Support emergency preparedness activities including drills evacuation plans and first aid programs.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and help drive engagement and accountability at all levels of the organization.
- Collaborate with supervisors and employees to promote best practices in workplace safety and injury prevention.
- Monitor and track leading and lagging safety indicators to support data-driven safety performance improvements.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Associate or Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety Environmental Science or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 24 years of experience in an EHS or safety coordination role preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA EPA and food manufacturing regulatory requirements (GMP etc.).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software (e.g. EHS compliance systems).
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to safety improvement.
- Analytical and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize competing demands.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work is frequently performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures humidity dust and noise levels.
- Frequent walking standing climbing stairs and observing production operations throughout the day.
- Occasionally required to lift carry or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses hearing protection gloves hard hat and steel-toed shoes.
- May be exposed to strong odors cleaning chemicals and food ingredients during inspections.
- Periodic evening or weekend work may be required to support safety investigations audits or training events.
- Use of computer and standard office equipment required for documentation reporting and communication tasks.
