Job Summary

Long Term Subtitute: Speech Language Pathologist

Reports to: Principal/Student Services Director

Length of Term: Janaury 19 2026 through end of the 2025-2026 School Year

Job Summary: Ipswich Public Schools seeks a dedicated and highly motivated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Long Term Substitute to provide comprehensive speech and language services to students in an inclusive elementary school setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in assessing diagnosing and treating speech language communication and related disorders while collaborating with educators to promote an inclusive learning environment. This position emphasizes the delivery of services within the classroom (push-in model) whenever possible and the integration of evidence-based practices through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and into special education service delivery models.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students speech language pragmatic and communication skills including AAC as needed to identify needs and determine eligibility for services.
  • Analyze data and prepare detailed reports summarizing assessment findings and recommendations.
  • Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the Special Education team.
  • Service Delivery:
    • Develop and implement evidence-based intervention plans to address identified speech language and communication needs.
    • Provide direct services through a combination of push-in (classroom-based) and pull-out (individual or small group) sessions prioritizing inclusion within the general education setting whenever appropriate.
    • Deliver interventions aligned with the MTSS framework including Tier 1 Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:
    • Work closely with classroom teachers special educators and other staff to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom curriculum and instruction.
    • Provide consultation and coaching to teachers on strategies to support students communication skills in the classroom.
    • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to discuss student progress and develop collaborative interventions.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided progress monitoring and IEP compliance.
    • Ensure all services meet state and federal special education requirements.
    • Contribute to the schools MTSS efforts by collecting and analyzing data to inform instructional and intervention decisions.
  • Professional Development and Community Engagement:
    • Stay current with developments in speech-language pathology and inclusive education practices through ongoing professional learning.
    • Actively participate in school and district-level initiatives focused on improving student outcomes.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Massachusetts DESE & state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
    • Demonstrated experience with inclusive educational models for speech-language service delivery with a focus on push-in services.
    • Knowledge and experience with MTSS structures including data-driven decision-making and tiered interventions.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
    • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive environment for all students.

    Preferred:

    • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA (preferred or eligibility to complete within a defined timeline).
    • Experience working in an elementary school or comparable educational setting.
