Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of Commerce is seekingqualified candidates for the position of Senior Business Development Managerwithin its Division of Business Attraction & Special Projects Office ofRegional Development.
POSITION DUTIES
Thisposition is primarily responsible for retention and expansion needs andopportunities and assisting or leading business attraction opportunities inSouthern Maryland. The incumbent will actively market and promote the regionsunique assets providing economic development assistance to businesses countiesand economic development organizations and partners. The Business DevelopmentManager will provide financial regulatory and technical assistance tobusinesses in cooperation with county partners; provide consultative servicesto businesses and site location assistance to new and expanding duties include assisting in the development of regional strategiceconomic development plans; and working closely with and maintainingrelationships with high level public and private sector officials including countyeconomic development officials local state and federal agencies businessesand lending institutions. Regional travel is required as is attendance at in-stateconferences.
The candidate will possess excellent interpersonalskills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintaineffective working relationships; excellent written and oral communicationskills; experience in business development business needs assessment and strategicplanning; ability to handle multiple concurrent and high priority projects;proficiency with Google Suite Microsoft Office Suite and other relevantsoftware.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:ABachelors degree from an accredited college or university in business realestate planning or a related industry field
Experience:Atleast six (6) years of recent professional experience in industrial businessor economic development; marketing; planning; commercial real estate; orrelated field
Note:
1.Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
2.Graduateeducation at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credithours on a year-for-year basis may be substituted for the required generalexperience.
3. Candidates may substitute Forces military service as a commissioned officer involving staff workrelated to the administration of rules regulations policy procedures andprocesses or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as astaff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer may be substituted ona year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.
- Local economic and business development experience within Southern Maryland.
- Demonstrated sales business marketing experience.
- Possession of the Certified Economic Developer credential by the International Economic Development Council.
