GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


As a Public Health Nurse serving Big Horn County youll have the opportunity to lead community health initiatives inGreybulland surrounding towns across the Big Horn Basin. Public Health Nursing here goes beyond traditional care youll play a critical role in improving access to health services educating the public and strengthening the overall health of rural Wyoming communities.

In this role youll collaborate with families schools community partners and local agencies to deliver preventive services assess public health needs and connect residents with essential healthcare resources.

Public Health Nurses in Big Horn County offer vital services including immunizations communicable disease management maternal and child health programs home visits and public health emergency preparedness. Your work will directly support the health resilience and well-being of the entire community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Conduct nursing assessments diagnoses treatments and evaluations in line with ANAs Public Health Nursing Standards.
  • Arrange and lead community health clinics and health education classes.
  • Support public health core functions prioritizing services that meet community needs.
  • Administer adult and child vaccines provide STI/HIV testing manage TB testing and more.
  • Provide Ryan White case management maternal and child home visitation lactation counseling and LT-101 reviews.
  • Collaborate with the nurse manager and public health response coordinator on emergency preparedness activities.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


**Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming.
**Drivers license required.


KNOWLEDGE:



  • Knowledge of laws principles practices and techniques of professional nursing.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records charts reports and observations.
  • Knowledge of principles of nursing process and scientific process.
  • Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
  • Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making.
  • Knowledge of physical biological and behavioral sciences.
  • Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
  • Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of federal state and local law pertaining to healthcare.
  • Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Associates Degree in Nursing

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR


Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience Nursing with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:



Must be able to:
  • Lift/transfer patients to different positions.
  • Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
  • Restrain clients for treatments climb stairs to patient homes and drive long distances.
  • Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
  • Work evenings nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

  • A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Hiring Bonus eligibility and conditions
    • New state employees and temporary employees accepting a permanent position
    • Current state employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been open to the public.
    • One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
    • Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.
    • Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
