Job Summary

The Certified Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments and other medical supplies to be safely redistributed and reused on future patients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Process instrumentation and equipment used in the operating room according to manufacturers recommendations and hospital policy and procedure.Â
  • Maintain instrumentation in working order. Perform preventive maintenance tasks and verify equipment functions properly. Submit requisitions for equipment maintenance repair or replacement and move defective equipment pulling it from use until repair or replacement is completed.Â
  • Report complete and accurate data relating to the biological and quality testing of sterilization equipment.Â
  • Follow established procedures for receiving decontaminating assembling packaging and sterilizing medical equipment.Â
  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments medical supplies and equipment. Differentiate the cleaning and sterilization methods as required for specific equipment and instruments.Â
  • Assemble wraps and sterilize trays of instruments.Â
  • Monitor stock levels and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing the operating room and in equipment storage areasÂ
  • Label collect and distribute instruments trays crash carts and facility medical equipment to units where they are needed.Â
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited CRCST program or CST program
  • Preferred: Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Scrub Technician

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Required: Clinical rotations completed in Central Sterile departmentÂ
  • Preferred: One (1) year clinical experience in Central Sterile department

License/Certification Requirements

  • CRCST or CST within 1 year of hire or transfer into the position
