Join our small friendly team in sunny Hawkes Bay. The region offers an excellent lifestyle in a warm and sunny climate.
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist or experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Haematology Department. This is a permanent full-time role. The role also involves Biochemistry and Specimen Reception duties as needed. Being a community lab our shifts are very civilised.
Current shift patterns are:
- Normal weekday hours 8:00AM-5:00PM
- Participation in the weekday evening shift roster 10:00AM-7:00PM
- Participation in the Saturday overtime roster
- No Sundays no on-call!
The ideal candidate will have routine haematology and blood film morphology experience. Biochemistry experience is also desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine haematology testing and blood film morphology.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results in line with quality standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality control programmes.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and report any issues to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow established laboratory processes and quality systems.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
- Keep up to date with developments in haematology and maintain professional standards.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and an Annual Practising Certificate.
- Ability to work rostered shifts including weekends.
- Strong commitment to accuracy efficiency and high-quality results.
- Proven ability to interpret complex laboratory data and report findings confidently.
- Skilled in workflow prioritisation and working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with quality assurance systems and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide technical and scientific advice.
- The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
- Committed to health and safety compliance and maintaining a clean safe work environment.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
Recent BMLSc graduates or other candidates who are in the process of obtaining registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand are also welcome to apply.
