Position Summary:
Provide high quality continuous and comprehensive nutrition services based on progressive knowledge to create and support an intercollegiate culture where athletes coaches and staff recognize nutrition as a critical element in academic and athletic nutrition status and needs of individual student-athletes and athletic teams in order to develop implement and evaluate appropriate nutrition education dietary plans in order to enhance athletic performance and general well-being.
About the Work Unit:
Vanderbilt Universitys Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity character sportsmanship and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conferences only private school. The university fields 17 varsity teams 15 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Provide nutrition education and counseling to student athletes
Assist in fueling station duties: stocking inventory and ordering
Assist in all aspects of performance nutrition for designated sports
Assist with coordination of outside catering for competition meals pre and post-game meals along with daily execution of performance meals.
Collaborate with coaching sports medicine counseling strength and conditioning staff to provide updates on nutrition concerns priorities and accomplishments made by athletes
Conduct Grocery Store tours develop educational materials manage nutrition social media accounts for the student athletes
Provide Education on banned substances and supplements per NCAA Guidelines
Analyze and evaluate lab values
Conduct body composition testing
Learn to plan and optimize budget for optimal nutrition
Learn about menu planning for the Hendrix Dining Hall
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Sports Nutrition and is part of the departments Sport Performance team.
Education and Certifications:
A Bachelors degreeis required.
A Masters Degree is preferred.
RD certification is required.
Experience and Skills:
Demonstrate effective communication strong interpersonal and team oriented skills
Ability to work a non-standard work week which may include nights weekends and holidays travel if needed with teams
Strong time management and ability to work independently and follow through on assignments
