Job Summary and Responsibilities
As an EKG Tech you will perform diagnostic electrocardiograms (EKGs) to assess cardiac function.
Every day you will prepare patients explain procedures and accurately operate EKG machines to record heart activity ensuring comfort and high-quality readings.
To be successful you will demonstrate strong technical proficiency meticulous data collection and excellent patient communication contributing to accurate cardiac diagnostics.
- Performs standard and complex electroencephalographic recordings:
- applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions and checks their performance
- calibrates and adjusts the EEG apparatus
- selects predetermined electrode combinations as well as special combinations made necessary by the case under study; takes standard recordings; recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them; describes normal and abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the tests; uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation photic stimulation and sleep; obtains the patients cooperation for the best performance of these procedures; monitors on the same apparatus other variables such as electromyogram electrocardiograms electro-oculograms respiration etc. when indicated.
- abstracts relevant information from the patients clinical record and additional information by questioning.
Performs difficult and/or unusual recording procedures.
Identifies appropriate age specific interventions and incorporates into daily practice
- Assists physician with electromyography. Places the patient on the examination table and explains procedure.
- Keeps equipment in a clean operating condition. Troubleshoots and repairs minor malfunctions in the equipment. Initiates repair of malfunctioning equipment.
- Practices strict ethical enforcement of protected medical and employee confidentiality. Uses confidential information only as needed to perform legitimate duties.
- Transports patients maintaining safety and comfort.
- Authorized to make entries in the medical record consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure.
Job Requirements
- One to two years clinical experience in EEG/EMG lab or
- medical assisting experience
- Basic Life Support - CPR upon hire and
Preferred
- Registered EEG Technologist upon hire
