Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist for a critical 4-month temporary assignment. The primary focus of this project is to audit organize and bring current our payroll tax registrations across various state and municipal jurisdictions.
The ideal candidate is a tenacious problem solver with prior payroll administration experience who is comfortable picking up the phone to resolve issues with government agencies. You must possess advanced Excel skills to manage large datasets effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Registration Management: Lead the initiative to register the company with all necessary state and local tax authorities to ensure full compliance.
Agency Liaison: Proactively contact state departments of revenue and local municipalities to determine registration status obtain requirements and resolve outstanding issues.
Process Execution: Follow established internal processes to complete applications submit documentation and track the status of registrations from initiation to completion.
Data Management: Utilize Excel to track the status of hundreds of registrations identifying gaps and prioritizing urgent jurisdictions.
Documentation: Maintain organized records of all correspondence registration numbers and filing frequencies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of payroll administration or payroll tax experience. Familiarity with multi-state payroll registration is highly desired.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with government agencies.
Organization: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage a high volume of open cases simultaneously.
Independence: Ability to work autonomously following up on items without needing daily prompts.
Technical Skills
Excel Proficiency (Required): Must be comfortable working with large data sets.
Pivot Tables: Ability to summarize and analyze registration data.
V-Lookups: Ability to merge data from different sources to ensure accuracy.
Proficiency with HR/Payroll systems (e.g. ADP UKG Workday) is a plus.
