POSITION: INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT PARAPROFESSIONAL/MLL
JOB GOAL: The Instructional Support Paraprofessional (SSP) will support educators by working with Multilingual Learners (MLL) in general education and special education settings to enable them to access the curriculum. Additionally this person will assist in providing students with social-emotional support that is not limited to classroom settings but may also apply to lunch recess and less academic spaces. Lastly this person will assist in some written and verbal communication to families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree Required; Bachelors Degree Preferred
- Experience working with children
- Ability to coordinate with and work as a member of a team that includes Principal MLL Teachers Classroom Teachers Special Educators other building staff related service personnel clinicians and parents
- Experience with and demonstrated ability to support Multilingual Learners.
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes emotionally supportive rapport with students
- Provides sheltered English immersion support via instructions and translations in real-time in the classroom
- Works collaboratively with MLL teachers and general educators to build upon the supports that currently exist to assist students as they work on in-class assignments
- Provides support in non-academic spaces in the school where translation and instruction is critical for students inclusion (e.g. Specials classes recess cafeteria)
- Participates in classroom planning meetings or other organizational meetings as well as professional development as determined by principal and or MLL department
- Greets students upon arrival to school assists with student dismissal and debriefs with teachers at the end of the day
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 Days. 7 hours per day
REPORTS TO: MLL Director and Building Principal
SALARY/BENEFITS: Per AEA Unit D Collective Bargaining Agreement. Eligible for benefits including health insurance dental insurance and life insurance and Town of Arlington Retirement System.
