Job Title: Patient Registrar
Location: Brooklyn NY
Contract Duration: 3 Months (possible extension)
Shift: 9:00 AM 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $20/hr (W2)
Position Summary
The Patient Registrar is responsible for registering patients scheduling appointments and obtaining pre-certifications and authorizations to ensure appropriate third-party payment. This role requires excellent customer service strong organizational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and register patients in a courteous and professional manner.
Obtain and enter patient demographic and insurance information into the system.
Secure medical record numbers as needed.
Perform insurance verification for Medicare Medicaid and Blue Cross as well as additional plans when required.
Schedule and manage daily appointment calendars considering provider and resource availability.
Prepare clinic workflows by retrieving medical records and setting up charts.
Request charts from Health Information or physician files; ensure NYPMG medical records are available for appointments.
Review charts to confirm test results and required documentation are present; obtain missing results as needed.
Return updated charts to appropriate departments for filing and archiving.
Retrieve lab and imaging data from internal systems.
Coordinate with referring offices and departments to schedule exams or procedures.
Make appointments for various medical procedures and ensure valid physician requisitions are received.
Assign and update billing codes appropriately.
Process documentation to ensure timely third-party billing including authorizations and test requisitions.
Verify third-party eligibility calculate patient liability and obtain necessary authorizations.
Inform patients of financial obligations for elective services and arrange payment plans per policy.
Counsel patients on payment options Medicaid eligibility and charity care processes.
Work with MEU and Social Services to determine Medicaid eligibility and required documentation.
Collect co-payments/fees issue receipts and reconcile daily cash collections.
Assist with preparing statistical reports data checks and updates.
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Education & Requirements
Required Skills
Spanish language proficiency (Required)
Clerical and customer service experience 1 year (Required)
Data entry skills (minimum 4500 keystrokes) (Required)
Strong verbal and written communication skills (Required)
Professional telephone etiquette (Required)
Computer and keyboard proficiency (Required)
Knowledge of health insurance benefits and requirements (Preferred)
