Job Summary

A Day in the Life:

PRT is currently recruiting for a full-time Production Manager to oversee the Grow Team and seedling production the PRT-way based at PRT Quesnel in Quesnel BC where we grow 18M seedlings annually. The Production Manager is a key member of the local management team. This pivotal role drives significant operational impact centered on continuous improvement and unwavering customer satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Nursery Manager the Production Manager oversees all aspects of our greenhouse seedling production and leads a skilled team that prides itself on meeting and exceeding customer expectations.

 

Key accountabilities of the Production Manager are:

  1. Production & Crop Culture Management
      • Execute all phases of the crop production plan ensuring precise implementation of water management fertilization and cultural programs as defined in Crop Prescriptions.
      • Manage the Argus Environmental Control System including programming and operation of irrigation climate controls and alarm monitoring.
      • Conduct detailed crop monitoring including morphological measurements tissue nutrient analyses and regular inspections for insects and disease. Implement control methods adhering strictly to the company-directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
      • Maintain and troubleshoot the Argus monitoring equipment and software performing minor repairs and modifications as needed (e.g. replacing sensors ensuring equations are adjusted seasonally for optimal risk management).
      • Assist with crop and growing material inventories and ensure accurate neat record-keeping using computerized systems.

 

2. Team Leadership Training & Collaboration

      • Lead train coach and mentor the growing team promoting collaboration and teamwork at all levels.
      • Supervise and train seasonal irrigation employees and provide instruction to nursery workers on safe and efficient practices for weeding quality control and general cultural activities.
      • Manage daily resource allocation and shift scheduling to maximize efficiency and meet production targets.
      • Set team targets (i.e. production timelines) and evaluate the achievement of those goals.

 

3. Safety Quality & Reporting

      • Maintain the highest standards of workplace safety ensuring strict adherence to all Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and regulations.
      • Act as a customer quality advocate ensuring all crops meet quality parameters.
      • Provide regular feedback and growing program reports to the Nursery Manager.

About the team:

The person in the Production Manager role will work alongside our Operations Manager and under the supervision of the Nursery Manager. 


Qualifications :

Required/ Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Agriculture Horticulture Agronomy Forestry or related field
  • Crop Management: Proven hands-on knowledge of conifer plant physiology nutrient management soil/substrate analysis pest/disease identification and advanced cultural techniques.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a commercial nursery or agricultural production environment with proven experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • IPM Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to execute a comprehensive IPM program
  • Environmental Control: Expertise in operating programming and troubleshooting computerized environmental control systems (e.g. Argus) for climate irrigation and alarm management.
  • Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Pesticide Applicator Certificate
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to climb stand and stoop for an extended period of time
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Greenhouse monitoring software and hardware experience preferably Argus

 

Salary information: $75000 - $% Bonus (compensation based on experience and preferred qualifications)
