This is a full-time tenure track position thats responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate Special Education courses. Primary duties include but are not limited to teaching advanced courses in the candidates area of expertise; conducting funded research and producing scholarly work; providing service to the department and the university; seeking and receiving external funding to promote department activities and research providing mentoring and advisement to students; providing committee services for the department and university.
The salary is determined in accordance with the Universitys compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates education and experience within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Teach in the undergraduate special education program.
Serve as a recruiter for the TEED program. Recruit and market undergraduate and graduate programs to school districts within the PVAMU catchment area. Establish partnerships and collaborations with school leaders.
Ensure that applicants to the programs meet minimum qualifications for admission.
Coordinate with the College of Education Office of Student Services and Certification on all matters relating to TEA requirements and expectations for relevant Educator Preparation Programs.
Keep records post grades submit attendance reporting and mentor students.
Post and maintain regular office hours.
Establish working relationships with counterparts at other TAMUS institutions.
Provide advising for new and continuing students.
Ensure that candidates are prepared for the appropriate state certification exams (186 and 253 TExES Exam).
Ensure course alignment to the TEA Special Education program.
Establish a working relationship with the Graduate School Admissions Office to review accepted applicants. Provide ongoing support to colleagues in the Curriculum and Instruction department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Doctorate Degree in Special Education.
Prior experience in research including proposal writing project execution with training of students and publication of results.
4 years of P12 school experience focused on professional or teacher development.
Experience as a higher education instructor.
Teaching experience in Special Education
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Expertise in the theory and practice of improvement science; adult learning in applied settings and empirically testing developmental change in practice and teacher outcomes.
Knowledge of Texas Education Agency policies regarding teacher preparation.
Experience in teaching in a teacher preparation program (emphasis on special education certification).
Experience in advising teacher candidates.
Proficient in Microsoft Word PowerPoint.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Special Education certification
Educational Diagnostician Certificate
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in special education or closely related fields.
2 plus years delivering professional development to teachers across various instructional settings.
TTESS or P12 school administrators and special education certification.
Strong analytical skills in curriculum development and online learning systems.
Passion for and commitment to student support.
Proven organization and project management skills
Strong improvement science analytic and coaching skills.
Curious open reflective able to accept feedback and learn from failure.
Ability to research and analyze complex information as a basis for decision making.
Ability to work and build strong relationships with leaders in different fields and at different levels of responsibility to design and implement applied research projects.
Ability to read the dynamics of a team and determine how best to engage them to reach shared goals.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and working in environments that are fast paced and evolving.
Represent the department in a positive and professional manner in all settings.

Required Experience:
