Our Enabling Team plays a crucial role in making this possible. We ensure that archaeology and heritage requirements are understood early managed effectively and embedded into project delivery. By working collaboratively with planners engineers construction teams and local authorities we protect cultural assets while enabling the smooth delivery of essential infrastructure.
The Role
Were looking for an experienced and proactive Archaeology and Heritage Assessor to lead archaeology and heritage inputs across Anglian Waters capital programme.
Reporting to the Enabling Manager youll develop and implement the archaeology and heritage strategy for Anglian Water ensuring clear consistent processes that minimise risk support timely approvals and uphold statutory and environmental responsibilities.
Youll advise on a diverse portfolio of projectsfrom pipelines and treatment works to nature-based solutions and network improvementsensuring right first time delivery and supporting the business in meeting planning environmental and heritage requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Programme Delivery
Provide strategic direction for archaeology and heritage across Anglian Waters capital programme
Drive risk-based approaches that reduce uncertainty streamline delivery and strengthen planning outcomes
Produce clear high-quality technical deliverables to support planning submissions and project development
Influence early design decisions to remove unnecessary risk time and cost
Collaborate across engineering planning and delivery teams to enable efficient and environmentally responsible delivery
Stakeholder Engagement
Lead proactive engagement with Local Planning Authorities and statutory bodies
Build strong relationships with internal environmental and heritage specialists to ensure alignment across all programmes
Technical Expertise
Develop and maintain the archaeological fieldwork risk strategy
Create standardised approaches and templates for heritage deliverables including digital formats
Provide technical guidance on archaeology and heritage requirements across project stages
Ensure compliance with health safety security and environmental legislation and standards
Digital Innovation
Use digital tools and data to improve efficiency and streamline processes
Safer Every Day
Promote continuous improvement in health and safety
Ensure safe working practices audits and reporting are completed to required standards

Who Were Looking For
Youll be a skilled archaeology or heritage professional who is confident operating in complex fast-moving project environments. Youll combine strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and influencing skills enabling you to balance heritage considerations with programme needs.
Essential qualifications and experience:
Degree (or equivalent) in archaeology heritage or a related discipline
Significant experience delivering archaeology or heritage inputs on large capital or infrastructure programmes
Experience completing surveys and preparing reports for EIA Screening Opinions and planning documentation
Ability to build strong relationships with LPAs statutory consultees and internal teams
Strong understanding of planning environmental and heritage legislation
Desirable:
Membership of a relevant professional institute or eligibility to join
Youll be innovative digitally aware and eager to explore new technologies and approaches that support efficiency reduce risk and enhance quality.

Working Arrangements
This role is based at our Peterborough office with hybrid working. Youll typically spend 23 days a week on site or in the office to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders. Occasional travel to operational sites or local authorities may be required.
