The United States Tennis Association Northern California Section (USTA NorCal) based in Alameda California is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953.

The Role

The Senior Manager Community Programs is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive outreach strategy designed to expand access to tennis and increase the sports visibility within the community. This role leads the creation and implementation of community engagement initiatives aligned with the organizations strategic plan and direction from senior leadership ensuring measurable qualitative and quantitative outcomes.

Responsibilities include leading and managing staff who cultivate and sustain strong partnerships with key community stakeholders including Community Tennis Associations (CTA) Parks & Recreation Departments National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) chapters schools HITS programs adaptive and wheelchair tennis organizations Tennis on Campus (TOC) programs grassroots officiating groups and adult social-play providers.

Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Drive develop and manage our strategic community outreach plans and programs.

  • Ensure that our partnerships effectively support program growth expand participation and advance the mission of promoting accessible inclusive tennis opportunities for all.

  • Lead manage and oversee the performance of all Section community activities.

  • Supervise and inspire a team of staff directing both their specialized program responsibilities and their community relationship-building efforts.

    • Timely management of their timecards expenses performance reviews training and administrative requirements.

  • Evaluate analyze recommend and implement effective strategies to achieve community outreach goals and objectives.

  • Travel into the community and connect the dots; finding new avenues to activate tennis.

  • Ability to manage plan work and/or oversee events ranging from on-court to large special events as needed.

  • Broaden the base of participants patrons and supporters through targeted outreach strategies.

  • Initiate and facilitate community outreach meetings that lead to new activations or expanded USTA programming.

  • Identify and assess areas within the Section where schools have both strong participation potential and access to multiple tennis courts creating targeted opportunities to introduce and expand tennis programming.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively partnering with department managers to align vision and execution.

  • Oversee the development and delivery of training and educational programs for clients partners and community organizations.

  • Build and nurture community relationships and partnerships that support USTA NorCal initiatives.

  • Identify leads and opportunities for outreach partnerships or sponsorships that expand program reach and impact.

Financial Management:

  • Develop manage and analyze the Community Programs Department budget.

  • Approve all program expenditures in alignment with the established budget.

  • Prepare and present timely budget projections variance reports rationale and other financial updates as requested ensuring all deadlines are met.

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and Controller to effectively manage departmental financial needs and ensure accurate budget oversight.

Travel Requirements:

  • Attend local and national staff training sessions and meetings as required by the supervisor.

  • Coordinate and participate in meetings required by staff or department schedules.

  • Be available for travel weekend work and additional hours as necessary to support community programs and events.

Who You Are

  • BA/BS degree earned from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of two years experience working in the tennis industry is preferred.
  • Experience and proven results in building positive relationships and earning trust.
  • Ability to effectively communicate articulate direction motive and results.
  • Strong enjoyment of frequent travel and conducting meetings throughout the Section.
  • Experience in motivating and inspiring staff to perform at their finest.
  • Experience in tactically leading managing and providing feedback for a team of staff.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills including work planning delegation and budgeting.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; self-starter.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence of work product.
  • Experience training staff and volunteers.
  • PC skills in Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint Google Suite.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Ability to lift objects (30lbs or heavier) during loading and unloading cars and storage.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and have reliable access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.

The role is mostly remote.The role must work in the Alameda office at least 1 day per week.We prefer a candidate who resides in any Bay Area county.

This is a full-time job (8am-5pm M-F; nights and weekends as needed) and the expected compensation for this position is $98000 - $110000 annually depending on candidate ability and experience and reports to the Executive Director.

This range does not include any additional bonus or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables including as appropriate the applicants qualifications for the position the years of relevant experience and unique skills.
