The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is currently recruiting for a Food Service Lead for the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center (YKCC) located in Bethel Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Provide direct supervision and instruction for approximately 25 inmate workers; preparing and serving meals while ensuring appropriate sanitation safety and security of the kitchen.
  • Lead prisoner kitchen workers in preparation and production of meals for YKCC Bethel Youth Facility and Tundra Center.
  • Ensure meat pulls are consistent with prepared menu oversee actual preparation and serving of food to inmates and staff.
  • Ensure that all modified diets are properly prepared for each meal which includes but not limited to vegetarian diabetic allergy disruptive inmate diets religious diets and other diets as prescribed by the Medical Department.
  • Ensure the proper baking and preparation of all breads and pastry items.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center (YKCC) is a multi-function state operated adult correctional institution. The institution has a capacity of 220 male and female inmates and employs a staff of 51.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Food Service: Knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption.
  • Food Production: Knowledge of planning growing and harvesting of food for consumption using appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

This job class is part of a series of competency-based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor Trades and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area the core and specific competencies of the career area required work behaviors certifications and physical requirements. The competency specification for this job class is available at in this job class are filled through Union referral except for promotions demotions transfers and emergency appointments.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • List of 3 professional references; one from current and previous supervisors.
  • Last 3 performance evaluations.
  • Copy of your degree or transcripts if using education to meet the MQs.
  • Copy of your Food Service Worker certification if you currently hold one.

SPECIAL NOTICES
  • Must have ability to obtain the ServSafe: Food Protection Manager Certification.
  • Drivers License Preferred

RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D-$30.20 if criteria are met.

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has beenconvicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
