About the role:

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Operations Assistant to join our busy Perioperative Unit within Hunter New England Local Health District. You will work within a dynamic surgical environment that supports multiple specialties across three theatres and one procedure room. This role is essential to maintaining safe efficient and high-quality perioperative care for our community.

A typical day includes preparing theatres assembling and checking equipment assisting with patient positioning and resetting areas between cases. You will transport patients specimens and equipment support clinical workflows and ensure the surgical list progresses smoothly. The role is fast-paced active and requires strong situational awareness and adaptability.

About you:

You will be someone who is proactive calm under pressure and committed to supporting safe patient care. You enjoy working in a hands-on team-based environment and are ready to assist clinical staff to ensure high-quality surgical care.

You must bring:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Reliability professionalism and a commitment to patient safety
  • Understanding of or willingness to follow infection control and hospital procedures
  • Ability to work a rotating roster including weekends and on-call
  • Physical capacity for manual handling patient transfers and equipment movement

  • Theatre-specific workflows and clinical expectations
  • Equipment setup pack-down and maintenance
  • Endoscope cleaning and care
  • Environmental cleaning aligned with ACORN standards
  • Perioperative logistics and campus navigation

What we can offer you:

You will receive a comprehensive orientation tailored to the perioperative environment including:

  • Introduction to theatre layouts workflows and key staff
  • Hands-on supervision with an experienced Operations Assistant or mentor
  • Manual handling and infection prevention training
  • Education on ACORN Standards
  • Training in endoscope cleaning and equipment readiness

Ongoing support will be available through the Nurse Unit Manager Team Leader in-service education mandatory training and opportunities for further professional development.

Staff are encouraged to expand their skills participate in quality improvement initiatives and build a rewarding career in perioperative services.
