Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Stepdown/PCU will provide nursing care to patients working 3x12 night shifts (1845-0715) with the possibility of 4x12 shifts. The RN will float within their scope of practice as needed and work every other weekend. This role requires experience in telemetry neuro stepdown or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings along with specific skills in cardiac monitoring emergency response cardiovascular gastrointestinal genitourinary/renal IV therapy/phlebotomy medication administration neurological/psychiatric orthopedic plastic surgery and respiratory care.

Responsibilities:

- Provide nursing care to patients in the Stepdown/PCU setting.
- Monitor and manage patients with telemetry neuro stepdown or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown needs.
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
- Utilize Rapid Response Teams as needed.
- Provide post cardiac angiogram post MI pre/post cardiac cath pre/post cardiac surgery sheath removal and TR Band care.
- Manage feeding tube care.
- Provide pre/post hemodialysis management and care for patients with renal failure.
- Access ports manage arterial lines administer blood products provide central line care perform phlebotomy manage peripheral lines and PICC lines and start IVs.
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration).
- Administer PCA and procedural sedation.
- Provide care for patients with craniotomies CVAs pre/post neurosurgery spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries.
- Care for patients with ortho trauma peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements.
- Provide care for patients with skin grafts and surgical drains.
- Care for ventilated patients manage chest tubes external CPAP/BIPAP high flow nasal cannula interpret ABGs administer oxygen via various methods and manage tracheostomies.
- Adhere to isolation precautions and provide wound care/wound vac.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- Minimum 1 year of experience in a relevant setting.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in IL.
- BLS certification.
- NIH certification.
- Experience in telemetry neuro stepdown or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown.
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Post Cardiac Angiogram Post MI Pre/Post Cardiac Cath Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery Sheath Removal TR Band experience.
- Feeding tube care and management.
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management Renal failure experience.
- Accessing Ports Arterial line management Blood Product Administration Central line care/management Phlebotomy Peripheral Line Care/Management PICC line management Starting IVs skills.
- Heparin Protocols Manage Cardiac drips- no titration Manage Vasoactive drips-no titration PCA Procedural Sedation Administration skills.
- Craniotomy CVA Pre/Post neurosurgery Spinal cord injury Traumatic Brain injury experience.
- Ortho Trauma Peripheral nerve block catheters Total Joint Replacements experience.
- Skin grafts Surgical drains experience.
- Care of Ventilated Patient Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac External CPAP/BIPAP High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) Interpretation of ABGs Nasal Cannula Oxygen face masks Portable Oxygen tank Non-invasive airway management Tracheostomy Management skills.
- Isolation Precautions Wound Care/Wound Vac skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- ACLS certification.
- Cerner experience.
- Teaching hospital experience.
- Level I Trauma experience.
Special Considerations:

- Will work every other weekend.
- Will float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.
- Open to discussing block schedules with the manager.
Scheduling:
- 3x12 Nights (1845-0715) able to accommodate 4x12s if candidate prefers.
- Shifts are determined and assigned by the manager.
